OIL ADDITIVE BTL LIQUIN V1 Winsor & Newton 250ml
The whole Liquin family are based on an oil modified resin or Alkyd. An Alkyd being derived from alcohol and fatty acids hence the name – being a variant of alcid the word made by combining alcohol and acid. Alkyd behaves and feels like oil but dries in roughly half the time of a conventional Linseed based medium.
Liquin original was the first of the Liquin family to be developed. It imparts a semi-gloss finish, speeds drying and improves the flow & transparency. It has a consistency close to oil colour but is slightly looser so reduces brush stroke retention. It resists yellowing. It is not suitable as varnish – this is a really important point although when used neat Liquin can provide an even gloss film to a finished painting; unlike modern picture varnishes, when dry Liquin is not soluble in normal paint solvents. Therefore when the picture surface becomes discoloured by ingrained dirt from the atmosphere, it cannot be either completely cleaned or removed and the picture re-varnished. Also Liquin will seal the surface of the painting and prevent the drying of underlying paint layers.
